Fábio Colaço's solo show: "As Long as We Believe" with APARTAMENTO

Artissima

Portuguese artist Fábio Colaço presents As Long as We Believe, a solo presentation at Artissima 2026 with APARTAMENTO, a gallery based in Marseille. The presentation takes place from 29 October to 1 November in Turin, at stand 7 in the fair’s New Entries section.

Through sculptures, installations and neon works, As Long as We Believe examines how power gains legitimacy through collective belief. The presentation brings together different works in which Colaço questions the mechanisms that determine what we recognise as truth, who has the authority to define it and how systems of control become embedded in our everyday lives. Through familiar objects, political symbols and visual contradictions, the artist explores the relationships between truth and fiction, authority and resistance, as well as the fragility of the structures that shape our perception of reality.

Among the works on display is We Are Living (2026), a neon piece featuring the phrase ‘We Are Living Somebody Else’s Apocalypse’, which reflects on the distance between witnessing a crisis and experiencing it. Also featured is Still Point Series (2026), a group of sculptures in which arrows pierce blocks of stone, creating a tension between imposition and resistance. The presentation also includes Untitled (1984) (2024), in which Colaço transforms George Orwell’s novel into an object that questions surveillance and the control of information.

On the occasion of this presentation, FVTVRIST has published an interview with Guilherme Marques, founder of APARTAMENTO, in which he discusses the collaborative process with the artist, the ideas underpinning the project and the role galleries play in creating spaces for critical dialogue within the commercial context of an art fair. In the conversation, Marques highlights Colaço’s interest in using everyday objects and gestures to address complex questions relating to power, politics and contemporary society.
