M|A|C Mataró presents Singuli. The Idiot City. A Programme for Anarchist Architecture, an exhibition curated by Martí Peran, with the collaboration of Domènec and a site-specific intervention by Jordi Colomer. The project begins with a question that is as paradoxical as it is compelling: how might we imagine a city made up of singular, irreducible and radically free individuals?
The figure of the idiot –understood here in its etymological sense, as one who maintains their singularity– is the starting point for the project. Far from representing someone disconnected from the community, the idiot is the one who takes on the task of disrupting what is established and making room for other possibilities. From this perspective, the exhibition proposes the anarchist city as a community built from singularities that remain singular even as they form part of a whole.
The term Singuli, from the Latin for “each one” or “one by one”, gives its name to this improbable city: a place where the individual exists as an absolute singularity and where the community is constructed in an im-political way.
The project brings together 99 real or fictional projects that approach this idea of the city from different perspectives. None of them directly represents the anarchist idiot city, but each explores, from a particular angle, the possibilities of other ways of organising space and collective life.
Domènec, an artist represented by ADN Galeria, takes part in the exhibition with Singuli, La Ciutat de Paper, a series of cut-out models that expand the exhibition project and invite visitors to imagine, build and transform this possible city. The project is completed by STELO, an intervention by Jordi Colomer conceived specifically for the exhibition and based on a particular evocation of Esperanto, an artificial language created with the aim of fostering a space for communication and fraternity between communities.
Singuli continues L’Idiota, presented at M|A|C in January 2025, and accompanies the publication of Martí Peran’s essay La ciudad de los idiotas. Un programa anarquista, published by Ediciones Asimétricas in 2026.
Domènec also takes part in Roulotte’s 20th anniversary
Alongside this exhibition, M|A|C presents Roulotte (2006–2015 / 2026), an exhibition revisiting the contents of the 11 issues of this contemporary art magazine published between 2006 and 2015, marking its 20th anniversary.
Curated by Xavier Arenós, Domènec and Martí Peran, Roulotte was a trilingual publication promoted by ACM, Associació per la Cultura i l’Art Contemporani a Mataró, focusing on contemporary art projects developed in specific contexts around the world. Throughout its history, the magazine collaborated with cultural centres, institutions and other international publications.
The exhibition brings together the different issues of the publication and makes copies available for visitors to take away free of charge. To mark the anniversary, Roulotte and Lumbung Press have co-edited, with production by M|A|C, issue 12, bringing the publication’s journey to a close.
This new edition takes the form of a collection of newly created posters, featuring works by Xavier Arenós, Erik Beltrán, Francisca Benítez, Domènec, Ângela Ferreira, Carla Filipe and Perejaume, accompanied by texts by Bea Espejo and Martí Peran, as well as a manifesto by Lumbung Press.
Together, the two exhibitions place Domènec’s practice in dialogue with different ways of thinking about space, community and the structures that organise collective life, at M|A|C Mataró. They opened on 19 September 2026 and will be on view at M|A|C Mataró until 10 January 2027.
