Connections, relations, revelations: Marina Vargas
Within the framework of the programme The Collector is Present 2025, we celebrate a beautiful encounter, presented by ADN Galeria starring the artist Marina Vargas and the collector Manuel Expósito. Connections, Relations, Revelations is, first of all, an encounter between thirteen works: five from Expósito's private collection and eight that have been recently exhibited in Revelaciones, Vargas's solo exhibition recently held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.
The selection is presented as a series of pieces in mutual dialogue: the pieces on loan from the Expósito collection are connected with those that travelled from the Madrid museum to Barcelona for this occasion. Here, the intention is not to represent a totality. Rather, we are interested in tracing a precise dialogue between two different contexts of circulation: the public museum and the private collection. Both spaces have been decisive in Marina Vargas's career and correspond to two ways of activating her works: from institutional monumentality to the privacy - and in this case the familiarity and intimacy - of personal collecting. Two scales that, each in its own way, produce meaning. The selection articulates several key discursive axes within the practice of Marina Vargas, which at the same time structure another type of encounter: the link between artist and collector, a relationship of almost a decade.
