Made from photographs taken by Nicolas Daubanes during his visits, the drawing on glass series À la faveur de la nuit represents the forests that surround the former concentration camp of Natzweiler-Struthof. These forests, which served to hide the camp's activities, where the sites of the detainees' escape fantasies. In Nicolas Daubanes’s work, iron powder always evokes the idea of escape (filed prison bars). The name of the series, À la faveur de la nuit (In the favor of night) refers to the German expression “Nacht und Nebel” (literally, night and fog) used to designate the Resistance fighters deported to the Struthof camp.
