Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the founding of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), Carrasco’s diptych presents us under the ironic motto of the military organization itself (“Free spirit to decide” in Latin) two replicas of the military templates with which war campaigns were designed. In a graphic language that reminds us of school supplies, the supranational military organization displayed in just two plastic rulers all the anagrams and shapes necessary to codify its operations. The artist reminds us that, behind an innocent appearance, these rules hide 70 years of military interventions around the globe.
