More information
The New Palermo Felicissima project consists of a video and an installation that were first presented during Manifesta 12. The work begins with a boat tour through the Sant’Erasmo cove, near Palermo. Onboard, the city residents listen to explanations from a foreign guide, the actress Laura Weissmahr, who recites texts written by local writer Roberto Alaimo. It is an ironic visit to a part of the city that has been forgotten for years, neglected by public authorities, and omitted in tourist guides. Thus, the journey offers an alternative way of visualizing and connecting with Palermo, a city where the active use of public spaces by its inhabitants is currently threatened by tourism, urban redevelopment, and police surveillance.
