Vaciado en bronce de la mano de Nicolás Sánchez-Albornoz, único superviviente vivo del Valle de los Caídos (Cuelgamuros). Nicolás participó en un intento de reconstrucción clandestina de la FUE ( Federación Universutaria Escolar). Fue detenido y condenado a trabajos forzados por la dictadura franquista en 1947 y escapó del Valle de los Caídos en 1948. Permaneció en el exilio durante décadas donde desarrolló allí gran parte de su carrera. Fue el primer director del Instituto Cervantes desde 1991 hasta 1996. Desde 1991 es miembro correspondiente de la Real Academia de la Historia.
