"The oldest and most intensive emotion of humanity is fear, the oldest and most intensive fear is the one provoked by the unknown". Lovecraft

The fear of the "unknown" is directly contraposed to the concept of "the ordinary" and lead us to the unseen universe, which can only be contemplated through an aesthetic filter, distancing us fron the elements causing fear; in this case film references in photography , the fairy tales...

This proposal is a way of investigating in the aspects related to fear, insecurity, paranoia, and in a subtle way with the aesthetics preceding violence, working the ambiguity and open a door to new interpretations.

Nic Hess, 1968. Lives and works in Zurich and New York

The urban experience is essential to this artist´s creative process. His work reveals itself in a funny and ludic way at times, while being assertive and aggressive at other moments. And even though he pretends to uproot the social and cultural conventions, it is not his main goal to change the world, but to create singular spaces in a society overtaken by the media.

Nic Hess draws in the space and this enriches his language with multiple possibilities. Utilizing a site specific approach, the execution of each project changes the space. The metaphoric and the architectural level overlap. The real spaces become imaginary and vice versa. The architecture becomes alive.

In ADN Gallery, a city map of Barcelona remembers us our location: a space disguised to contain sensations and ideas. Nis slips his sight to project and wonder though the walls as if printing out an urban imaginary. We are overtaking by impressions that a priori are just that: mere perceptions: visions and subtle moments that now become the main characters of a urban misse en scene.
